If you need advice on any aspect of marine macroalgae, BEZHIN ROSKO may be able to work for you as detailed below. Our main expertise is in laboratory-scale cultivation and genetics of brown algae.
BEZHIN ROSKO may provide advice particularly to persons interested in working with the brown algal model, Ectocarpus.
Training:
If you wish to learn isolation and culture techniques for marine macroalgae, especially for Ectocarpus, BEZHIN ROSKO may be able to help you.
Training may be provided at your place, or you may come for a few days to Santec. BEZHIN ROSKO could then also arrange your accommodation.
Provision, examination and experiments with algal cultures:
A number of about 6500 stock cultures of microscopic stages of marine brown algae from all over the world are maintained in the BEZHIN ROSKO culture collection and many are available to the public (see list of cultures). Most of them were isolated by Akira Peters. They are usually free of eukaryotic contaminations.
BEZHIN ROSKO may examine your algal cultures.
BEZHIN ROSKO may make experiments with your algal cultures. This includes particularly isolation of spores and gametes, crosses, raising of zygotes.
Field material:
BEZHIN ROSKO can collect marine macroalgae for you from nature, conserved (herbarium specimens, microscopic preparations or dried in silica crystals) or alive. In the latter case, purification and isolation into unialgal cultures free of eukaryotic contaminants is possible.
